The Museum in the Park

The Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. It features changing exhibits and displays of artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. The Museum in the Park's new coal memorial is open to the public.

Current exhibits include West Virginia Quilts: A Tradition of Excellence which features award-winning quilts from the West Virginia State Museum collection, loaned quilts from local collections and art objects by West Virginia artists; Dehue. . . A Special Place, a comprehensive exhibit created by West Virginia University and former Dehue resident Dolores Riggs Davis which examines many aspects of coal camp life including the business of coal mining and the social aspects of a coal camp community; Remembering Buffalo Creek, which presents artifacts relevant to the Buffalo Creek disaster; Looking at Logan: Black History, an exhibit from the collection of local black historian and president of the Aracoma High School Historical Society, Claude Williams; and Ron Moxley Collection: Native American Artifacts, which includes a nutting stone found in Chief Logan State Park, less than a mile from the museum. The late Moxley was a local archaeologist and teacher at Man High School. Artifacts from this exhibit are on loan from the Shawnee Trail Associates, Inc.

Children's Workshops featuring crafts and art projects are held each Saturday, free of charge.

adam.hodges@wvculture.org. Museum in the Park is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and is located four miles north of Logan on West Virginia Route 10 at Chief Logan State Park. 



Movie fans can always find the latest Hollywood epics at the Fountainplace Cinema 8 Theater at the FountainPlace Plaza in Logan. Matinees start early every day and matinee tickets are $4.50 for shows before 6 p.m. The theater features eight screens and the two largest screens are curved and the theater features digital surround sound, a small arcade in front and a concessions stand. Located in the heart of West Virginia's southern coalfields, Chief Logan State Park is four miles north of the town of Logan. The park and town share the name of the Chief of the Cayuga Tribe (also known as the Mingo tribe).

Today the 4,000-acre park is one of the most visited in the state park system. The park features a 25-site campground, modern restaurant, outdoor amphitheater, conference center and wildlife center. The recreation enthusiast can enjoy miles of hiking trails, a swimming pool with water slide, tennis, and miniature golf. Picnic shelters and playgrounds are found throughout the park.

Meeting and conference rooms available. Located in Gilbert, WV.

Water Ways Water Park

Known as West Virginia's Water Park, it features double slides, rapid river, little dipper, Olympic size pool, lazy river, and a miniture golf course. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Located near Rt. 119 near Julian.



West Virginia Hillclimb Offroad Park & Campground


The best of hillclimbing. AMA sanctioned. Pro climb in June with five AMA climbs per year. Camping, concessions, showers, drag racing, hare scrambles, and motorcross. Access from the park to the Hatfield McCoy Trail. Near Madison. (304) 369 - 0316.
